Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At St. Leonard’s CE Primary School, we seek to nurture faith and inspire success for all pupils. Through innovative teaching, high expectations and an inclusive curriculum we provide the opportunity for all learners to achieve and to make a positive contribution to society.
As an academy within Lambeth, we are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible and to meet the needs of pupils with SEND in a mainstream setting, wherever possible.
The school meets children's needs across the four areas of SEND:
- Communication and interaction
- Cognition and learning
- Social, emotional and mental health
- Sensory and physical
The school follows the Graduated Approach throughout its SEND support process. This starts with its process for early identification of SEND, raising initial concerns about a child, writing Student Support Plans (SSPs) through to carrying out the provision outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The school also engages with external professionals such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and professionals working with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), where appropriate.
